Lights

The sun peeks out behind the Cascades, slowly and tentatively. Pinks and oranges streak the sky announcing it's prescience. Lake Washington is perfectly still in the cold early morning, creating a perfect reflection of the sky. The water looks perfectly pink.

The crisp winter air brisels against my cheeks, but with a sunrise like today, there is hope for a warm spring on the horizon.

The glass panes of the Seattle skyscrapers reflect the sun, sparkling like the Emerald City that it is.

Life then and now

So here I am, about to turn 25 in a few days and I'm reflecting on my life thus far.

10 years ago if you had asked me where I would be when I turned 25, I would have had a very different idea of where I am now.

View from 15 of 25:

  • A steady, long term, loving relationship with a wonderful guy
  • Matching underwear and bra sets
  • My own apartment, decorated like the inside of a Pottery Barn
  • A steady, well paying job I love
  • Hosting dinner parties and talking about current events

View from 24 and 363 days of 25

  • A steady, long term, loving relationship with Doctor Who on Netflix
  • Old bras, and more holes in my underwear by the day. Some saved for special occasions.
  • Living with my high school roommates, in the room I came home from the hospital in, decorated by me in the 8th grade
  • Severally underemployed and applying to anything and everything
  • Suggesting a bar night and talking about how we wish our lives were different

I could go on, but I don't want to seem like I'm complaining. I chose to go to Australia and spend every available cent to me on an amazing experience. But there are a few things about my life that I thought would just be, well easier when I got to this milestone.

I can't wait to see what the future holds, the twists and turns that come with it and how I spend the rest of my 20s.

Here's to the next 25 years! Happy birthday to me!
